The Australian History Department encompasses all items of Australian historical interest and importance including Indigenous Australian history and artefacts, Australian and Colonial Furniture, Decorative Arts, Australian Silver and Jewellery, Australian Pottery, Carvings, Paintings and Early Photography, Goldfields and Convict interest, Scrimshaw, Militaria, Books, Documents and Historical Ephemera.

Maritime artworks and artefacts demonstrate the importance the ocean in exploratory history and the role played in global expansion. As part of this offering, the Department features all things maritime and naval, including early Antarctic & Arctic Exploration photography, cartography, model ships, ship's bells, cannons, flags, naval uniforms, weapons and maritime-focused paintings of battles, merchant shipping, general sailing and yachting.

Complimenting our annual Australian includes items of engineering and mechanical history and importance. Gibson's recently held the highly successful single owner auction named Tempus Fugit - The collection of avid collector and retired engineer, George Gyori, offering an interesting and eclectic collection of horological and scientific instruments, clocks, watches and timepieces with great success.
