Gibson’s Chinese & Asian Works of Art Department focuses on fine works of quality across the Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian regions, ranging in date from antiquity to the early 20th century. The department encompasses expert knowledge in areas of Asian works of art including jades, bronzes, lacquer wares, wood and bamboo carvings, ceramics, scrolls, paintings, textiles and furniture.

Chinese & Asian Works of Art are presented for auction in Gibson’s Seasonal Auction Series, held quarterly throughout the year.

Chinese Works of Art

Gibson’s offers a very strong industry knowledge of Chinese Works of Art comprising porcelain, wood, bamboo & lacquer wares, jade carvings, bronzes and silver wares, scholar’s objects, paintings and scrolls, and furniture.

Japanese & Korean Works of Art

As part of this department, Gibson’s handles fine examples of historical cloisonné, lacquer wares, woodblock prints, metalwork, painting, sculpture and calligraphy from Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Burma and Thailand.

Indian, Persian & Middle Eastern Art

Expanding further into the East, we have experience and knowledge of Indian, Persian and other Middle Eastern arts including rugs and carpets, with dedicated consultant specialists in these fields.

Chinese & Asian Furniture

Fine classic furniture including chairs, tables, pedestals, stools, marriage chests and cabinets, day beds and sofas, made in various woods including huanghuali, zitan and other specialised timbers.
