Gibson’s is delighted to present a special Valuation Day at Hamilton Gallery on Saturday 5 July, from 10am to 3pm. This free, drop-in event is an opportunity for members of the public to receive expert advice and auction estimates from our team of specialists.

Whether it’s a painting that’s been in the family for generations, a piece of jewellery, a decorative object, or something you’ve always wondered about — we’re here to help. Our specialists cover a wide range of categories including fine art, antiques, decorative arts, jewellery, silver, and Asian art. If we’re unable to assist on the day, we’ll be able to refer you to someone who can.

There’s no need to book and no fee to attend. You’ll meet one-on-one with a Gibson’s specialist for a brief, informal valuation. If you’re interested in selling, we’ll be happy to explain how the consignment process works — with the option to take smaller items back to Melbourne on the day.

For larger items or furniture, there’s no need to bring them in — just bring clear photos, measurements, and any relevant information. More tips on what to bring and how to photograph your items are included below.

A Few Guidelines

To help us keep things moving smoothly:

  • Please bring no more than two items per person
  • Consultations will be kept short so everyone has a chance to be seen
  • For larger collections or estates, please contact us in advance to make separate arrangements
  • While in-person is ideal, photographs are acceptable for large

Photographing Your Items

  • If you’re bringing photos instead of the actual item, especially for artworks, please include:
  • A clear image of the full item
  • A close-up of any signature or markings
  • A photo of the reverse (for artworks)
  • Dimensions of the work (excluding the frame)
  • It’s also helpful to note any known provenance, purchase history, or artist/maker details, if available. The more information you provide, the more accurate our assessment will be.

We look forward to seeing you at Hamilton Gallery — whether you’re thinking of selling or simply curious about your piece. For any questions ahead of the event, please contact us.
