Property from the Sam Gance Collection

The private collection of prominent businessman and founder of the Chemist Warehouse and MyChemist empire, Sam Gance, is set to be auctioned off on Sunday, April 30th, kicking off at 2 pm. Boasting an impressive array of curated items featuring 18th-century furniture, remarkable antique decorative arts & furnishings, and contemporary art collected over 35 years. One of the collection highlights is a prominent painting by Contemporary artist Imants Tillers (Born 1950), who has represented Australia in the Venice Biennale and whose highly coveted multi-panel paintings are held in private and public museum collections nationwide.

The auction contains many notable furnishings from decedent 19th-century giltwood mirrors, wrought iron chandeliers and a pair of austere Louis XV walnut wing back armchairs. Not to be overlooked are the subtle yet impressive duo of 19th-century French guéridons with marble tops. Equally remarkable is the Charles II plank top refectory table dating from the late 17th century, which commands a massive length of over 3.5 meters. The collections objet d’art showpieces include a couple of graceful cast bronze cranes in the Meiji Style as well as a set of six Han dynasty jars that are truly captivating and highly sought-after by collectors.
