Live Auction

Australian & International Art

We are pleased to present the first Australian & International Art auction of the year, where a number of substantial single-owner collections are nestled in the multi-vendor auction. Featuring the delightful collection of Helen Nixon (Lots 66-73), who, as Clifton Pugh's consultant and friend for many years, amassed an impressive collection of paintings from the twilight years of Pugh’s career, namely a significant and joyful portrait of Helen (Lot 66), and the genuinely effervescent painting Landscape Reflections with Wattle 1985 (Lot 67).

Also highlighted is The Robert Law Collection (Lots 140-155), diligently preserved and handed down through three generations. Fresh to the market, this collection presents collectors with an exciting opportunity to access some early and fine examples of works by Walter Withers, John Mathers, Arthur Merric Boyd and Blamire Young.

Other notable works in the auction include Egyptian Street Scene (Lot 47). Housed in an elegant gilt frame, this painting is a splendid example by the Italian artist Fabio Fabbi (1861-1946); The successful Neoclassical painter contributed immeasurably to the Orientalist genre. Recently, Fabbi has been of considerable interest due to the discovery of his lost journals illuminating his journeys to Egypt.

An impressive selection of Indigenous works are also in the sale, such as a commanding work by Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri (Lot 121) stretching just over three metres wide, an array of enigmatic paintings by Emily Kame Kngwarreye, in particular My Country circa 1994 (Lot 117) and a selected range of vibrant and sizable paintings by Judy Watson Napangardi.
